9/30/23 questions on procedures...1)should engine be warmed to operating temperature..2) should each carbs idle screw be adjusted out to barely contacting before reading airflow 3) should engine be static timed beforehand 4) at what rpm should strobe timing light show full advance...thanks

Everything was OK until he said "That's the way we have always done it." That alarms me when anybody says that about anything! Because that does not mean it is RIGHT!

I set mine cold initially .0010 but check when hot. I do 1&2 first then start engine and run to bring back to operating temperature then shutdown and check 3&4. I take hot setting and for each cylinder and document each cylinder clearance and subtract from cold settings to get a loose zero gap. Each cylinder will have a different cold setting but engine will almost sound like you have hydraulic lifters. You are right sequence will be the same no matter the size of engine but clearance will be different depending on pushrod material and valve material and size of cam. I've run some setups. 008/.010

Thanks, this video was very helpful because you explained that static timing can be enough if you don't have a timing light. Good for people unsure if they are going to screw up their cars.

If u are changing out whole distributor, yes. If you are modifying the distributor to remove points and condenser to install magnetic induction pickup inside distributor, no, u don't have to remove the distributor

I have watched this again and again and tried this method-not exactly true,he doesn't talk about if your motor won't run before using that timing gun..it is not easy as all these videos claim. That motor looks New, not old and original like most cars have. Another video not completely truthful...

The most complete and clear video on adjustment ever! I used to turn that wheel once at TDC and adjust both 1 & 2 cylinders and then move it 180 degrees to adjust the other side. Ive been doing it all wrong until now lol. I think my distributor is also on wrong side. The mark is away from firewall :|

If the distribution spark thingy is on the wrong side, then you are in Australia where the toilets go round and round the wrong way.
